No one can put a time limit on how many sessions it takes to feel better as counselling is not an exact science. It may take more, or less, time as expected. Significant change usually happens within 8 to 12 sessions. For some people, a few sessions might be sufficient and they notice they are feeling better. Most often, people feel that one session starts to provide them some relief. Depending on your needs and goals, treatment may be brief, intermittent, or longer-term.
The first appointment is a 60 minute session. Paperwork is completed then I will seek to gain a deeper understanding of your current difficulties. We will also discuss your hopes for counselling.
When this information is gathered, we will discuss a treatment plan. Over the course of treatment, we will review your progress regularly and ensure you are on the path to meeting your wishes for treatment.
Please note that attending an initial session does not commit you to ongoing sessions.
Sessions typically last either 50 or 80 minutes. Different people need different times to accommodate their specific needs. Most sessions can take place in 50 minutes; however, some people need more time particularly for an initial appointment.

Benefits typically reset at the end of December or in April. Psychology services are also considered an approved expense through Revenue Canada’s health deductions.
Connect Psychology accepts debit, Visa, Master Card, and e-transfers. Direct billing is available through Alberta Blue Cross. In some situations, payment by a third party may be arranged.

Your phone, tablet, or computer can be used for online video sessions. The important thing is to use a device with a camera and a microphone. You will not need to download any programs. I use Doxy.me which is compliant with privacy laws and uses a high level of encryption. When a session has been scheduled, you will be sent a link to my virtual waiting room. It is a simple as clicking on the link at the scheduled time.

As a Registered Psychologist, I am covered by most health insurance or employee benefit plans. Please contact your insurance provider and ask about how much they cover, what is the deductible, the plan limit per calendar year, and if you require written approval from your family doctor.
Fees are payable at the end of each session. I accept cash, credit cards, and e-transfers. You will receive a receipt at the time of payment, which can be used for reimbursement from your health benefits provider.
